Why Replace Your Electrolysis Cell?

Electrolysis cells are consumable components that gradually lose efficiency over time. Replace your cell when you notice:

  • Reduced chlorine production despite proper water chemistry
  • Visible wear or damage to electrode plates
  • Scale buildup that won't clean off
  • Cell age exceeds 3-5 years of regular use
  • System displays low cell production warnings

Installation & Maintenance

Installation: Power off your Salt & Swim system. Disconnect unions on old cell. Remove old cell and inspect housing for debris. Install new cell ensuring correct flow direction (marked with arrow). Reconnect unions and power on system. Reset cell usage timer if applicable.

Maintenance Tips:

  • Maintain salt level between 3,000-5,000 ppm for optimal performance
  • Keep water chemistry balanced (pH 7.2-7.6, calcium hardness 200-400 ppm)
  • Inspect cell quarterly through viewing window for scale buildup
  • If scale appears, remove cell and soak in diluted muriatic acid solution (1:4 ratio)
  • Never use metal tools to clean electrodes - use plastic brush only
  • Ensure adequate water flow through cell (minimum 2.3 m³/h)

Benefits of Salt Chlorination

Salt chlorinators like the Hayward Salt & Swim 2.0 offer superior pool care:
