Remora Inverter Heat Pump with Wi-Fi for Swimming Pools and Koi Ponds | 9kW to 19kW

A Full Inverter Heat Pump That Will Actually Run A Koi Pond

Most pool heat pumps will not let you set the water below 20°C, which makes them useless for a pond. The Remora Inverter has that limit taken out, so it will hold a pond at the temperature you actually want it at. Add a 1°C differential before it restarts and an input for an external thermostat and probe, and you have a heat pump that will sit on a koi pond and keep it steady rather than swinging it about.

It is a proper full inverter. The compressor and the fan both vary their speed instead of banging on and off, so once the water is up to temperature it ticks over on a fraction of the power to hold it there. That is where the running cost saving comes from.

Why It Suits A Pond

  • No 20°C floor on the heating range, unlike a standard pool heat pump
  • 1°C differential to restart, so the water is held steady rather than cycled (going below 1°C will cost you efficiency)
  • Remote input for an external thermostat with its own probe, if you would rather sense the water somewhere else
  • Spiral titanium heat exchanger, suitable for fresh water
  • Heats and cools, so it will pull heat back out in a hot spell as well as putting it in

Plug It In, Or Wire It In

The 9kW and 12kW come with a 2.8m mains cable, an RCD and a UK 13A plug already fitted, so they go straight into an RCD protected outdoor socket with no electrician. If you would rather hardwire either of them the cable comes off, and you want a 10A MCB on the i9 or a 16A MCB on the i12. The i15 and i19 are hardwired only, on a 16A and a 20A MCB.

Wi-Fi And The App

Wi-Fi is built in on every model and runs through the free Smart Life app on iOS and Android, so you can set the temperature, change mode and put it on a timer from anywhere. The Wi-Fi module arrives on a 10m extension cable outside the unit, which makes it easy to set up and lets you move the module if the signal where the heat pump sits is poor. Once it is talking to your network the module can be tucked back inside the cabinet, which is a five minute job with the top off. You will need a usable Wi-Fi signal where the unit is.

Three Modes

  • Powerful, for getting the water up quickly
  • Silent, for overnight
  • Smart, which is the one that holds a set temperature on the least power

Living Outside

It is built to sit outdoors in a black ABS cabinet with a covered LCD display, works down to -15°C ambient and defrosts itself automatically. A winter cover is supplied to keep leaves and muck out of the fan and the coil when it is not in use.

It needs air, so leave it room: 1500mm clear in front of the fan, 700mm each side, 300mm behind and 500mm above. Boxing it in behind a fence or in dense planting will cost you heat output, because it ends up breathing its own cold air back in.

One thing worth saying plainly, because it is not covered by the warranty: drain all the residual water out of it before it sits unused in cold weather. Frost damage is on you, not on the warranty.

Which Size

Sizing a heat pump is not just about how many litres you have. It depends on how warm you want to hold it, how long for, what else is in the loop and whether the pool or pond is covered at all. Buying bigger is rarely wasted, it gets you there faster and extends the season. If you are weighing up two sizes, give us a ring on 01803 900195 and we will work it out with you rather than guess.

It wants plumbing in on a bypass after the pump and filter, and the connections are 1½ inch. We stock the bypass kit if you need one.

Not suitable for heating your house. This is a pool and pond heat pump.

Warranty

Three years parts and labour on the heat pump. Seven years in total on the compressor and the titanium heat exchanger, the coil being covered against corrosion, parts only after year three. Manufacturing defects only, and as above, frost damage from not draining it down is excluded.
